Volunteer Position: Warming Centre Volunteer
Location: White Rock, BC
Reports to: Warming Centre Volunteer Coordinator
Position Summary: The Warming Centre Volunteer will assist in patrolling the area around Centennial Park to maintain a safe and pleasant environment for all visitors. This will include keeping the park and surrounding areas clean, identifying and potentially removing safety hazards. Volunteers will also identify any individuals in distress or needing assistance and notify the appropriate authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patrol the area in and around Centennial Park from North Bluff Road to the north, Oxford
Street to the east and Blackburn Cresent to the west.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness, picking up litter and reporting any issues to the Warming
Centre Volunteer Coordinator.
- Attend the safety Orientation session before commencing first shift
- Complete the shift report
- Ensure you are with another volunteer, security guard or staff member at all times
- Carry a workable, charged cell phone and always wear the uniform/safety vest
- Assist with any additional tasks as directed by the Warming Centre Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Minimum age of 19+
- Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness
and/or hardship.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Able to walk up to two kilometers and have a cell phone
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one shift per week. Shifts are typically 2
hours long and can include morning, early, evenings, weekends, and holidays
