Peninsula United has been recognized as an Affirming Ministry by Affirm United/S’Affirmer Ensemble, a United Church-affiliated organization dedicated to justice, especially for the support of all gender identities and sexual orientations. This means we are open to ALL who wish to attend or participate in our church activities.
In 2022, Peninsula United became an Affirming congregation within the United Church of Canada after a thorough process. We celebrated this milestone on PIE Sunday, March 13th, 2022, with guest speaker Ernie Klassen advocating for LGBTQIA2S+ support. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, we distributed homemade tarts and participated in Pride events, including raising our banner at City Hall.
Peninsula United warmly embraces all individuals without discrimination based on various factors, including age, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, neurotype, ability, marital status, culture, family type, or socio-economic status.
We're committed to becoming an inclusive faith community, embracing God's love, welcome, and justice for everyone. We partner with organizations like PFLAG and Sources, inviting more members to join our Affirming Team.
You belong.
We champion full inclusion of marginalized individuals in our faith community and society, dedicated to ongoing learning to embrace diversity as a divine blessing.
We aim to formalize our welcoming stance, ensuring everyone feels valued, respected, and embraced by God's inclusive love. Being Affirming means not just inviting others but also being open to transformative change within ourselves, individually and as a congregation, as we stand with marginalized communities. Our Affirming ministry celebrates diversity and uplifts often marginalized voices, guiding our service to God's world.
Peninsula United celebrated achieving its Affirming Ministry status at a special worship service on Aug. 7. New Westminster’s Rainbow Chorus presented two anthems during the service. Afterward, choir and congregation members and visitors mingled over hot dogs and cake.
