It's scary for people to come to a new church. It's hard to beg to belong. It's hard enough work for extroverts to find their footing at times, much less the introverts; and sometimes a breaking heart or desperate soul looking for answers in a sermon or song can't wait for us to get over our shyness, traditions, or busyness; and the 50+ steps from the narthex to the dessert table may as well be the rocky, roller-coaster path to Triacastela on the Camino Trail.
So, they need you; they who are scared and shy and wanting to belong somewhere need 3 to 4 coffee mates to help them. They need people who are open and have an “other oriented” mindset, who offer a natural warmth to those lingering and longing for connection, who find small talk easy or necessary, have a welcoming smile, a warm handshake, or a "Hello there!" Or even someone who'd like to learn this!
So, do you have 3 minutes after service to search for the lingering gaze in the back pews or foyer? Is there room at your table for a newcomer and grace enough to bring them a coffee and cookie?
Then be a PUC Coffee Mate and contact Marilyn Hahn at marilynhahnbc@gmail.com for details.
Let's be "That Church" and walk with folks on those 50+ steps toward belonging.
