Peninsula United is again undertaking a refugee sponsorship. A support team was formed in June 2021 to sponsor an Eritrean family of 5, mom, dad and 3 young children, who are trying to reunite with the rest of the family after having to flee their home and their country due to the war in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
While we have completed all the pre-arrival work, we expect that it will be some time before the family receives their travel documents. All sponsorships are unique and require us to practice patience. Long periods with no official communication is not uncommon. This refugee application was started in 2019, and due to COVID, understaffed or closed offices and an enormous backlog, the wait can now be up to 4 years.
At this time we ask that you pray for the safety of this family, and for other refugees who are awaiting settlement.
Sponsorships have been an amazing journey and enriching experience for Peninsula United Church. We have been so blessed with many kinds of support and of course this work could not have happened without our volunteers and financial donors like you.
The congregation of Peninsula United is grateful for your generous donations. Thank you.
To meet the needs of new refugees and to have enough for unexpected expenses, donations to the Refugee Fund will be gratefully received.
